Sneak Preview

Hello, Scrappy Friends!

Today I just want to give you a tiny glimpse of things to come!  The new CTMH Idea Book goes live tomorrow and there are some wonderful, fun, exciting new items in there.

Tomorrow I will have a couple of posts.  The first is an Idea Share on how to reuse your stamps.  The second is a card using some of the new items.  The September Stamp of the Month is so, so pretty!  I can't wait to share it.......since I can scarcely contain my excitement, I'll give you a glimpse of it to the right!

Ok, I better quit typing before I give away too many secrets.

As for today, there is still time to pick up any of the retiring items:  My Crush Books, retiring colors, paper collections, etc.

Sad Good Bye to My Crush Books

Ok, I've said it a million times ~  I love the CTMH My Crush Books!  My personal favorite is the Wildwood Book.  I have a few posts showing how I've used it.  I experimented with lots of different medium on this to show how truly versatile and sturdy these pages are.  The page on the left is pretty traditional for me:  stickers, tape runner, studs, etc.  However, the right page has gel medium, gesso mixed with re-inker, water color pencil/water, inks, stamping, glue, die cuts, and studs.

The little miniature page with the cowgirl is stamped with an older retired stamp.  I stamped the image on water color paper that happened to have a tear strip.  I left it on so I could attach it to the book rings.  The horse/rider was masked and I stamped my arena fence.  I used the water color pencils to color parts of the girl.  I inked around her and finished up with a light spray of Tea Stain ink from Prima Color Bloom.  Using the color spray that hit my mat, I mopped up and colored the edges!

I backed the freestanding image with one of the cards from the Wildwood pack (already retired) and inked some background.

 The picture of me riding also flips up as well as the journaling page under it.

The background triangles die cut on the right side is from the new cartridge Artistry.  This is a great cartridge; lots of fun cuts, backgrounds, and inspiration.

Alright, I must say good bye to the Crush Books.  I will admit, I have another one still in the wrapper to use for a very special project I'll be starting and sharing early in 2016.  I'll keep you up to date on that.  I have to say, it's going to be fun!!

Flakey Friends!

I've been working on some Christmas cards lately and pulling out some older stamp sets.  This is

such a cute stamp set from CTMH, but these guys are melting away!  Yep, they are on the retiring soon page.

The banner, however is from the new Artistry cartridge!  There are some beautiful cuts on this Cricut Cartridge.  I am enjoying the new inspiration.

Snow much fun!

Snow much fun?  Maybe for this scrappy little horse!  That poor snowman isn't having much fun!  

I used the print n cut feature in Cricut Design Space for this card.  I combined the image of the snowman (who was originally with a deer) from the Snow Folks cartridge with the horse/fence from Country Life.  I copied the pieces of the horse and bird to cut and stick on with 3D tape.  There you have it!  Pretty simple card.

I did add some ink and Studio G glitter glue to make some frosty snow, but other than that this card should be pretty easy to replicate for my kiddos who ride with me.

All cardstocks, stamps, and inks are from CTMH.

New Artistry Cartridge in the House!

Ok, I've been chomping at the bit (wow, what a great expression to use here at ScrappyHorses!) to use the new Artristry Cartridge.  It came quickly, but I had some other wonderful things to occupy my time.  So, I needed to wait until yesterday to play with this delightful collection!

There are images for everyone on this cartridge including:  icons, shapes, layers, banners, backgrounds and a fun alphabet!  It seems everyone is so excited about the layering possibilities; I agree, they are really cute.  However, I think I'm most impressed by the backgrounds!  They are incredible and I can't wait to investigate those further.  I will also add, the icons are just too much fun!  Every cut on this layout is from Artristry.  I did weld the little doggie tag from two different shapes.

Speaking of doggies, this sweet girl is my "grand-pup" who was brought into the family back in February!  She was adopted from a shelter and has truly made herself at home wherever she goes!  She is the epitome of 'man's best friend'!

Old School Scrapping!

The challenge over at Cut It Up is Old School.  The idea is to use old techniques or supplies.  With this challenge comes the opportunity to win something new from Newton's Nook!

When I think of old school scrapping techniques, I think of newspaper articles, pictures, the date, and a few embellishments!  As for the papers, I think of plain cardstock.

As I moved forward on this project, I looked back at my old scrapbook from HS.  Sure enough, there were dates, pictures, programs, and a few keepsakes.  So, I decided to be true to the form and scrap this article and some pics for my nephew's book.  However, I did use a few techniques from this era!

New technique #1
The die cuts!  The "Stars" title cut is from Independence Day-Freedom; it originally said Stars and Stripes, but I altered the cut in Design Space.  The 2014 came from Days and Dates.  "Play Loud March Proud" is from Quarter Note.  The stars are from Holiday Cakes.  All cuts were done in Cricut Design Space.

New technique #2
The laminator!  I laminated the newspaper articles before placing them on the page.  I put cardstock behind the articles and laminated the pieces together.  This will hopefully protect the newsprint and the photographs.

The picture on top of the newspaper photo is a picture I took of a paused screen on television!  I had to prove to future generations Viktor's band was on TV!  hahaha  They are the WeBo Stars; that's whyI used the stars theme!

All cardstocks and inks are from CTMH.

Priceless!

Hay prices are high and probably going to get higher; same goes for feed!  Farm machinery,,,,,,well, we won't even discuss what that costs or the price of maintaining it!  Driving the tractor with Papa; hey, that's priceless!

I remember playing on my grandpa's tractor at his farm; it was the best fun!  Now we get to share that with our grand-girl.

All of my cuts except the deer are from the CTMH Artiste and Artbooking Cartridges.  

I used a stencil I made from the Artbooking cartridge to air brush in the arrows.  It ended up looking almost like tractor tire prints!  I layered over that with different stamps including:  Distressed Backgrounds and Assorted Edges.  

In Design Space I sliced the deer from Going Places Cartridge into a frame from Artbooking.  I used the In the Background stamp from CTMH to put the pattern on using Pixie ink.  After the ink was dry, I heat embossed with clear powder using the same stamp.  

The arrow pattern paper is Sweet Leaf color from Fundamental Paper.  This cardstock has a really cool ink resist feature.  I rubbed over it with a darker green ink to get that look.

A Winter Walk

What is sweeter than a little girl dreaming of sleigh bells while walking her Christmas Pony?  This is a special card I made for #Cards4Love!  Please visit them for the details.  Cards must be received by August 31, 2015.

As you all know, I'm a huge fan of CTMH stamps, but when I saw this one from Whimsy Stamps I had to get it!  I stamped in with black ink and then went to painting, coloring, and inking in shades of pink.  I was so pleased with myself as I was painting with various mediums when I thought, what am I going to put behind this now that I've done it in PINK?

I don't have Christmas / Winter theme paper in PINK!

I was looking at some scrap papers and saw this piece left from the *Brushed collection.  I kept looking at the greens, reds and pink and poinsettias came to mind.  I paired it with this winter scene and felt it was a good match!  The piece of paper directly under the scene is also from the Brushed Collection; it is the pink, red, yellow *Bokeh effect paper.  I simply used the pink that was left in the middle.

Ok, crisis averted.  I continued on with the painting.  The pony's mane and tail were done with colored pencils, CTMH inks, and a couple of Copics.  Her body was done with colored pencils and rubbing alcohol.  I color and then paint alcohol over the pencil coloring.  It will blend the colors slightly and dry quickly without getting the paper too wet!  The pony's blanket and the girl's coat and hat were done with a pink gelato mixed with rubbing alcohol.

I outlined the fur with a silver gel pen.  I put little dots over the picture with Studio G Glitter Glue.  I then used some little white sequins to give it a snowier look!  The green grosgrain bow was already tied in a box of bows I keep ready for just such occasions!

I am venturing into some new mediums and look forward to sharing some watercolor attempts very soon.  I really enjoy mixing it up over here!  I guess that is why I enjoy working with CTMH so much.  They offer different mediums in addition to beautiful papers, cardstocks, and embellishments!

*Speaking of such things, the Brushed Collection (as well as the other collections featured in the current CTMH Idea Book) is only available through Sept 1, 2015.  So, you still have a couple of weeks to order the retiring papers, stamps, and other goodies on the Retiring Items Page.  The heart background cardstock is also on that page; it is from the Paper Fundamentals Whimsy Assortment.

Zoe Colors

What beautiful colors to end our summertime crafting!  I chose to make a necklace and gift bag for my friend's August birthday.  I was inspired by the challenge over at Color My Heart!

The bag is cut from CTMH Art Philosophy and the decorative flower is also from that cartridge!  The center of the flower is embellished with Whisper and Slate colored Grey Enamel Gems (Available Sept. 1).  The bag is showing off the Zoe Paper Collection!  You can see the other beautiful papers in this collection HERE.  The top layer of the flower is cut from Paper Fundamentals Whimsy Assortment.  (This particular pattern of the Fundamentals line retires Sept. 1) 

 Did you know CTMH offers a beautiful line of jewelry making supplies?  They make it easy to make a gift and wrap it, too!

 I chose the square pendant, Zoe paper, and a little horseshoe from my stash.  I picked up the little horse charm at Michaels.  I made the display square from Glacier Fundamentals and backed it with a heavy cardboard.  You can check out the Base and Bling HERE!  I can tell you, if you enjoy jewelry making, you are going to love the new items coming in September.  Stay tuned!

#Cards4Love

Hmmm.......what's wrong with this picture?  Have I gone crazy?  These cards aren't even finished!!

Ah, that's because these are thank you card kits I made for #Cards4Love!  Please visit them for the details.  Cards must be received by August 31, 2015.

The card kits are for kids at St Jude's Children's Hospital.  They are requesting cards the kids can make/finish to give to their care takers.  They can also use finished holiday cards for the kiddos!

If cards for children isn't your thing, you might want to check out the cards for the military.  Either way, #Cards4Love is a great idea!

About my card kits:  There are tabs on the back of the sentiment piece to peel off and stick them on the colored bases.  Then they can peel off the bear stickers and place them on the top!  Each kit comes with the complete makings for one card including an envelope.

My sentiment is from the print and cut in Cricut Design Space and the little bear stamp is from CTMH!  I used a variety of CTMH papers, washi tapes, and inks to finish them off!  Well, not really finish; the kids will have to do that!

Celebrating!

Over here at ScrappyHorses we are celebrating!

First we're celebrating our new affiliation with CTMH!  Yep, I finally joined on as a consultant after being a loyal customer for several years!  My daughter was a consultant for awhile and I was "in the know" during that time.  Her life got busy and she didn't have time for so much crafting.  I started going through withdrawal!  I placed a few orders, but was always wondering what was coming next.  I just couldn't stand not knowing anymore!  So............Now I Know!!!  As you can see, Thunder is celebrating, also!  More crafting means less riding and more eating for him!  hahahah

Opportunities!

It's a beautiful day....there are so many opportunities for fun and adventure, but he says one thing and she says another!

Yeah, sort of the story of many married couples!  ;)  Kelly and I seem to work it all out and we both make time to enjoy our hobbies together, alone and with friends/family.  It really doesn't matter if we go to a car or horse show, it's a beautiful day when we're together!

I decided to put this layout in my Wildwood Crush Book.

This book is a great opportunity to document just for me!  It's full of pictures I love, experiments with inks and mediums, and messy imperfections.  It's an opportunity to do what I want since it's a book for me.  You can see other pages I have done here,  here and here.

I really enjoy working in My Crush Books.  The books come in different themes with patterned pages you can fill with pictures, memorabilia, or ephemera.  They can also be used as art journals; the pages are thick and will take several different mediums.  If you've ever been interested in obtaining one, this is the time!  I mention this because the Crush Books are on the retiring items page at CTMH.  You might want to check out that page; they are retiring several colors, stamps and paper lines!

Nifty Fifties!!

Animals is the theme over at Cut It Up!  Yay, who doesn't love an animal cut project?  This is waaaay too fun!  We have a great prize sponsored by As Cute as a Button!  So, head on over to Cut It Up for all the details on this challenge!

My little grand girl was watching PBS one day when a sewing show came on after her regular line up of educational tv.  I went to change the channel and she quickly said, "Hey, I'm watching this!"  I set down the remote and watched with her.  About fifteen minutes into the show she announces, "I want a circle skirt!"  We immediately went to the craft room and sewed a circle skirt for her doll.  

Of course, then she wanted one for herself!  This challenge was just too perfect for a Poodle Skirt to make my little Lu's dream come true!  Her birthday is later this month; so, this 1950's outfit is part of her birthday!


The skirt is made from pink felt using Simplicity pattern 5401.  This sweet poodle cut is from Cricut Nifty Fifties.  I added Blumenthal Lansing-Favorite Findings Sew-On Round Gems-Black to the dog's collar and used another for his eye.  The leash is Glitterspun Onyx Cord.  The dog is cut out of Soft Felt - 9" x 12" - Brights.  I was able to cut the pink and black felt using the Cricut; however, for some reason the white felt was a bit of an issue. So, I cut the pattern for the white pieces and hand cut them using my patterns.


My faux saddle shoes are made from inexpensive canvas tennis shoes.  I used a Sharpie to outline the parts I wanted to paint black.  I then painted. My laces are scrap hem tape I had from years ago.

I picked up a little sparkly top for her to wear with her new skirt and shoes.  The polka dot ribbon is a head band for her.  .......and here is the picture of her in her new outfit!

Happy Birthday from our Guest Artist!

My name is Lucy.  I am the guest artist at ScrappyHorses today!  Miss Katrina is my Nanna!  I am spending the day with my Nanna and I decided to make a card for my cousin.  

I am 6 years old.  My birthday is the 22nd and I'll be 7.  Today I am the guest artist, but Friday I'll be the star of a ScrappyHorses post!  I had lots of pictures taken for it today!

This is a very special card.  It is for my cousin, Olivia.  

I really love CTMH stamps and paper!  I used stamps from the Art Philosophy sets.  I learned how to mask when I stamp!  I also got to heat emboss.  I cut the mask on the Cricut.

After the card was done, I got to take the picture and write the blog.  Actually, my nanna is typing!  

I colored around the cupcake with gelatos and then used a baby wipe to smoosh it around.  

The best part was making it with my nanna!  Nanna thinks that was the best part, too!

She said I can send this to Heart 2 Heart's Birthday Challenge since I chose CTMH stamps, papers, and inks!
