Birds of a feather...

Ok, this is one of those "My grandma always said....." posts.  You know the kind when we all hear our mothers or grandmothers rambling on about something or telling stories to make a point.  Well, anyway, Grandma always said, "Birds of a feather, flock together."

It seems she was always saying this when she was making the point that maybe I wasn't "hanging around" the people I should or when she was talking about people getting into trouble.  She also was known for saying, "a leopard doesn't change his spots," but now I'm simply getting off track!

Back to the birds.....

Our theme at Path of Positivity this month is empathy.  As I was continuing my thoughts on that word, I couldn't help but think of that saying.  Possibly when we are needing to be understood due to difficult times, we seek out people who can give us more than sympathy.  We look for those who can truly empathize with us.  We want to surround ourselves with those who will understand our pain, frustration, anger, etc.  Possibly this is why some people seek out a support group when they are facing difficult times in their lives.  They hope to find acceptance for who they are and what they feel.

On the flip side of that, maybe this saying explains why we enjoy being around people with whom we share common interests.  Again, we find understanding and a common joy!

Let's break down that word; em = en which means "to be in" and pathy comes from Greek meaning "suffering" or "feeling."

Ok, are we any closer to really understanding and/or defining this word?  I'm not sure I am, but I do know these little Chickadees seem very complacent together!

So, what are your thoughts on empathy?  How do you define this word?  We'd love to see what you have to share on the subject.  Our prizes this month are sponsored by Sparkle N Sprinkle.  So, be sure to link up for a chance to win!

My birds are flying off to Fantabulous Cricut Challenge where the theme is Things with Wings.

Thanks for joining me as I rambled on about my thoughts and share my first Christmas card of 2016!  It's always great to have you visit; please feel free to look around my posts/pages and leave me a comment/question if you're in the mood.  Have a great day!
