Happy Birthday!

As we continue along the way at Path of Positivity, we are exploring Family Ties.  We are creating projects that show one of our own family connections.  I chose to create a card for my son who just happens to have a birthday TODAY!! I am also showing another one of the attributes that connects my family...

FOOD! Sweets in particular!  We can't have a big family meal without dessert, and there are always twice as many desserts as there are side dishes!

Cake is a big one in our family for special occasions!  If there is a birthday within weeks of a dinner, there's a big cake!

Yeah, we're all great eaters and food brings us together for all the holidays!

Come share your ideas of this theme at Path of Positivity!

  *   *   *

This card was so fun to make for my son.  Keith is in his late 20's, so making a card for him can be tough.  This sentiment was just the ticket (hee hee) for a perfect card!  I went with balloon stencils I cut on my Cricut and inked with Blues, Tans, and Greens.  Then the 'oops' happened...

I was stamping another project in the middle of this one and my black ink lid went down on my balloons!  UGH!!  Breathe,,,,I can fix this...hmmmm.  Of course, this is for Keith.  This is a farm kid who works on cars, rides horses, and wears cowboy boots 7 out of 7 days.  I'll just put a few grunge marks on there!  Whew!

I colored the ticket sentiment from Scribbles Designs with Copic Markers, cut a couple of back up tickets, and embossed the kraft paper ticket.  I inked that one to show off the embossing a bit more.

I added a metal eyelet and gold/tan ribbon.

Material List

Copic Markers
Adhesives:  Fabri Tac, ATG Tape Runner
Balloon Stencil cut on my Cricut

Happy Fall!

Our new challenge over at Cut It Up is Happy Fall Y'all + use at least 3 layers! Of course you need to remember your die cut, also!  Come share your interpretation of this theme and don't forget the die cut!

At my house Fall means two things:  perfect riding weather and birthdays!!  The bulk of my family and friends were born in September and October; so these are very busy birthday months!  In fact, today is my sister's birthday!

It was a difficult decision as to whether I wanted to do a birthday card or a horse project,,,,,  Obviously, the horse won out!  hee hee  This digi is perfect for any of my horses!  They all love to have pictures taken and walk through the autumn leaves!

I have 5 layers here including the 2 layer sentiment from Cricut Access Cartridge Simply Scarecrows.  I cut the first layer in yellow and the second layer in brown.  Then I used colored embossing powders and heat embossed the layers.  I 'double dipped' my embossing to get this textured copper look!

Dance

Time for some dancing!  This adorable image is a recent release from Conie Fong!  This bundle, Dancing Emily, is perfect for so many different occasions and especially great for this time of year as we blow off the dandelions! This set comes in JPG and PNG formats!

I'm having a little fun playing with homemade stencils and textures in my journal today!

I have used the Dancing Emily image and printed her and the sentiment from the bundle on X-Press It Blending Card.  I used my Cricut to cut a mask to cover her and then got out my stencils.  I layered up the inks.

I then came in with some Versa Mark embossing ink and and swiped the edges of the card.  After sprinkling some blue embossing powder I hit it with a heat gun and then repeated the steps using a brown/copper colored powder.

I backed the piece with a dark purple from DCWV and then adhered it to my page.  There is a bit of ribbon slipped between the layers!  This page is finished off with a few little gems.

Family Ties

As we continue along the way at Path of Positivity, we are exploring Family Ties.  We are creating projects that show one of our own family connections.  I chose to create a page that actually shows one of the attributes that connects my family rather than showing a connection between two individuals.

I am creating in my journal again for this challenge.  I saw this wonderful quote in the Bugaboo shop called Frame It -Courage... and that, my friends, sums up my family ties!   Yep, we are one tough bunch of characters who constantly battle something or other.

What ties us together is the courage we all share in doing what we need to do!  This page in my book shows a pic of my horse Jake and me working through some issues with a wonderful trainer.  This is one example of when I was a bit nervous about the experience, but my family all encouraged me just to go and do it!

In the past couple of years,  I have battled EGPA (Churg Straus), my daughter has gone a round or two with Dermatomyositis, and my mom has taken on cancer!  We've all been tough and shown courage!

My son grew up stumbling through the Autism Spectrum, but he did it with courage and strength!  I could go on and on with examples, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Yeah, we're all pretty gnarly and courageous!

Come share your ideas of this theme at Path of Positivity!

Newton's Wheels!

Our new challenge over at Cut It Up is Wheels on the Bus Go; the idea is to use wheels in your creation!  Come share your interpretation of this theme and don't forget the die cut!

Since our sponsor for this challenge is Newtons Nook, I decided it would be fun to give Newton some Wheels of his own!  And what better than a VW!!  Now, you might be wondering what is a VW kind of birthday....well,

My background is made using different cuts from the Cricut DS.  I chose to flatten them and use the Print feature.  The VW cut is a bit altered so Newton would fit and that cut is in the Cricut Library/Access:  Indie Days.

I also did some 'fancy' cutting to make the Newton stamp fit his car.  I fussy cut the paws and strategically stamped masking out the cup from his left side.  The car is adhered with 3-D tape.

Sentiment is my own from my corny sense of humor!  hahaha

Pasture? Beach?

There's nothing like a dip at the beach on a hot summer day...unless there's no beach around your landlocked midwestern state!

So, you improvise and create a swimming hole with your horse trough!  As you can see, our one horse Rubin is not too sure about this idea.  But he finally comes to investigate the fun!  I had to include this wonderful digi from Hetty Clare in my layout because the look on that horse's face was exactly how Rubin was looking in the middle photo.

Pink Sunflower?

This is a recent release from Conie Fong called Sunflower in a Pot.  This bundle is perfect for so many different occasions and especially great for late summer/early fall!  There are 5 images in this bundle:  1 sunflower in a pot image, 1 sunflower, 1 sunflower with leaves and 2 sentiment images.  This set comes in JPG and PNG formats!

I decided to Google some sunflowers and see if theycome in different colorsand found theycome in several different colors!  One of the colors I found was called Strawberry Blonde!  How fun is that!!  I'm sure if you go searching the internet, you'll find many beautiful colors to try on this amazing bundle!

Here are some examples I found via the web.

So back to the card itself!  Using Cricut Design Space, I printed the flower onto the the cardstock and placed the sentiment (
included this stamp bundle) over the top.  I also printed and cut just the sunflower blossom (also included this stamp bundle) to color and place on top using 3-D Tape for dimension.
