Snow Angel - Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue!

I had already submitted a card for the color challenge at Color My Heart, but I wasn't very happy with how the colors played out for the challenge.  Well as fate had it, I was snowed in all day and was able to create another card following the color scheme much more closely!  So, inspired by the incredible snowstorm yesterday,  the color challenge at Color My Heart, the FCCB Use a Sentiment Challenge and the New Beginnings challenge at Heart 2 Heart, a little snow angel was created!

Here in the midwest we are getting hit hard with snow and frigid weather.  I'm sure our creative friends in Minnesota and Wisconsin are wondering what the fuss is all about throughout Illinois, Indiana and Ohio; but believe me, for us these are blizzard conditions!  Our windchill is negative 35!  Yee gads!  All animals are secured in their stalls with lots to eat and heated water buckets.  Hopefully, with full bellies and warm water they will do ok in the barn.

Ah, and yet again in posting, I have digressed!

Back to the card...I first embossed Sky Blue cardstock with a Cuttlebug folder.  It is difficult to tell, but the snow is in three different layers of Colonial White stamped in Colonial White pigment ink and heat embossed with white powder.  I stamped with the words from the Universal Backgrounds.  I stamped slanting up and then down to try to get the effect of a hill.  (A new technique for me!)

I cut the little angel from A Child's Year in Pacifica.  I glittered her wings and star.  Her shadow is cut from Slate cardstock. I double-popped her off the card to give the piece lots of dimension.  I did not glue down her wings.  The glue/glitter made them slightly curl outward.  I liked the effect and decided to leave it!  She is waving her little snow crystals everywhere!  The snowflake on her wings was a leftover cut from my snowy horse card In the Barn with Red; it is from Artbooking.  The trees and hearts are cut from Art Philosophy.

I used the Adorable Backgrounds stamp (retired) to stamp the trees in Lagoon.  I sponged the trees with some ink and then dipped the edges in Colonial White.  After sprinkling with white embossing powder, I heat embossed the edges.  The large tree is popped off the card with 3-D tape.

My sentiment is from CTMH Flakey Friends stamp set.  The little gems were all left over from my daughter's wedding.
In this 2nd picture I wanted to show how from a distance the stamping on the tree really does look like evergreen trees with snow.  I noticed this when I was looking at the card across the room.

Here's the scoop:

Something Old - The idea of a snow angel is old for me.  As you might have seen in my bio, I'm a musician by trade.  Years ago, I wrote a song and titled it Snow Angels.  If you're interested in hearing it, you can click the arrow.

Something New - I've never double popped anything from a card before.  I single-popped the large tree; therefore, I had to double-pop my angel!  I also have never heat embossed to create texture before.  I think it gives my snow an interesting look.  Lastly, I used my new light box for the first photo. The light box was my Christmas gift from my wonderful husband! Oh yeah, and very lastly, I didn't use a Mocha Gem!  (Those who follow my blog know I love those gems and use them on EVERYTHING!)

Something Borrowed - I had to borrow Lagoon ink from my daughter.

Something Blue - Ok, I won't state the obvious!  hahaha

Wishing you all a safe and warm week!
