It's the Easter Bunny!

Well, it's time to think Easter ~ pastels, spring, and bunnies!  Yes, bunnies is the theme over at Cut It Up!

My bunny is from the The First Few Years cartridge.  I used Design Space to slice the bunny cuts into a square.  This made my bunny stencil.  I cut it from Acetate Alternative.    

Now, the fun part is the medium I used with the stencil over the tag ~~ Faber-Castell GLASS BEAD GLITTER GEL!  It made the bunnies all glittery and textured.  

I laid the stencil over the tag (cut from CTMH Artbooking cartridge) and taped it into place.  I then rubbed CTMH Blush ink over the stencil and ended up with blush bunnies.  Without removing the stencil I used a palette knife and spread the glass bead glitter gel over the inked bunnies.  I love the look of this.  I saw the idea on a video by Vicky Papaioannou:

Saddle Adventures

Time for another challenge over at Through the Craft Room Door ~ always Anything Goes; so any project you want to share is great for our challenge!

My layout today includes the fun western digi Saddle Up from Just Inklined.  I fell for this image and decided to use it with some older pictures of my son.  I colored the image, fussy cut it, and glued it onto the page.  I then blended around the image with some Chocolate ink.

I stamped with some background stamps to add more texture to my page before adhering the pictures and embellishments.

Song Inspired: Angel

As one might imagine from my bio, I am constantly inspired by music.  For me there is no better inspiration for creation.  When I was offered the opportunity to share as a Guest over at Scrap It With A Song, I jumped on it!

I chose the song "Angels" performed by Robbie Williams.  I was inspired by the lyrics:  

"I sit and wait

Does an angel contemplate my fate

'cos I have been told

That salvation lets their wings unfold"

There is also a verse mentioning "waterfall" and that inspired the spray of gems cascading down the angelic ascension.

Beauty

Time for another Path of Positivity Post!  Our theme this month is beauty.

Beauty……well how many directions could we go with this theme?  Ok, come with me on a rambling journey as I ponder this.

Let's see……there are "beaucoup" sayings:  Beauty is only skin deep.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  True beauty comes from within.  We could go on and on!  We could explore the true meaning of beauty.  Is it about our looks, actions, faith, attitude?  I might even choose to leave the human aspect and venture into nature, animals, the cosmos, etc.   Wow, so many options here!

I fell in love with this image from Sami Stamps and thought it was beautiful!  The beauty theme inspired me to choose this image and that in turn reminded me of these preciousl pictures I had not scrapped from my daughter's 2013 wedding.  

It seems weddings can be viewed with such cynicism these days, but this truly was a beautiful day.  It wasn't about the dresses, flowers or cake ~ although they were all lovely ~ but it really was about the beauty of two families coming together and celebrating the formation of a new family!  It was truly a beautiful day for me; I was blessed with a new son and the bonus of my first grand-girl (that sweet little red-head in the pic)!  No, it may not have been the way I had always envisioned my daughter's life, but the beauty far exceeded what I would have planned for her.  

……and possibly there it is……beauty isn't something we plan.  True beauty comes when we keep our hearts open to the unexpected.

St. Patty's Day!

March is here and it came in like a lamb where I live.  However, the snow is back, but wait ….. we're back in the 70's early next week!  Wow, it certainly has been an interesting season.

But, back to the matter of March!  It's a busy holiday month with St. Patrick's Day and Easter not far behind.  So we'll get it kicked off with this card I made for my guy, Kelly!  Yep, a good Irish name for my sweetie.

Winter Fae TTCRD

It's time for another TTCRD challenge..............

Wait, we interrupt for a weather bulletin:  Wow, as I type this I'm thinking just how inappropriate this card is here in the midwest!  This past weekend we broke record highs for February!  Yep, the temps were in the high 60's and may have reached the 70's.  I was out in a t-shirt and flip-flops.  That just doesn't happen here in February or even March for that matter!  

Ok, well I'm sure we're in for more cold, so this card will again be appropriate!  So back to the regularly scheduled post!

It's a Leap Year

Yep, that's right…. a Leap Year!  When I was a kid I was told that Leap Years were the years when girls could ask a guy out on a date, to a dance or even propose marriage to him!  Wow, that was weird to me!  Of course, now, it's not so strange at all!

When I thought about that and knew I needed to use a frog in my Cut It Up creation this time, I had a good idea what I wanted to do.  To make it all the better, Bugaboo is sponsoring our challenge and I found Princess Charlie there!  She would be perfect for my idea!!  

I went into Design Space and found banners, hearts and my letters for the sentiment.  I arranged it on the card front and flattened it.  Then I flattened the frog from Create a Critter and cut him.  I imported Princess Charlie into DS, cut and colored her with pencils and Copics.  I embellished with some glitter and gems!  

I'm not sure if little Princess Charlie is feeling a bit disgusted or shocked at having to kiss that little love-struck frog!

Mirror, Mirror!

Well it's mid-February and time for the Path of Positivity mid-way post!  Our theme this month is Desire and in my first post I pondered this theme discussing the expression "your heart's desire" and that post went in several directions!  This post is a sort of part 2 taking us back to the apple in part one! ;)  

I was thinking about the apple and that led me on a journey to the fairy tale about Snow White and that wicked queen who desired to be "the fairest of them all!"  Now, this whole concept made me wonder about my own desires that lead to my goals....... 

Obviously, Queen Grimhilde (from Snow White) had very selfish desires and would go to wicked lengths to achieve those desires.  However, I want to take this in a little different direction, how many times do we set goals based on desires that are not our own?  Maybe they are goals set on the desires of society, companies, commercials, tv, stigmas, etc.  Are we looking in the mirror with desires of being the fairest meaning the upright, just person?  Or are we out to be the fairest meaning beautiful in the eyes of society's standards?  How far will I go to achieve those desires with either definition?  

Wow, the PoP themes always push and pull me in so many directions off the beaten path!  I suppose that is the purpose, yes?  

So, here is my synopsis on the desire theme:  I desire to set my goals in such a way to bring about the healthiest most positive outcomes for my family and little area of society ~ much like Snow White who worked hard to bring about fairness and peace in her little corner of the forest!

Little Claire Silhouette Cat

It's time for another challenge over at Through the Craft Room Door!  Our challenges are always Anything Goes and this month Little Claire is our sponsor!  They are offering a generous prize; you can check that out as well as the other inspirational pieces by the talented design team at TTCRD!

I love this image called Silhouette Cat and Tree.  I decided to import it into my Cricut Explore Design Space under imported images.  Then I cut it from black paper.  I thought it would be fun to make it shiny by embossing it with PEARLustre Embossing Powder (Hematite).  I cut a sun from CTMH Canary cardstock to put behind it.  I popped the image with 3-D foam tape.

The sentiment is from the CTMH stamp set called You Are My Happy (retired) stamped in Ruby to match the Ruby cardstock.  I embellished my kitty with a little red bow from some scrap floss.

This image is just adorable and I'm sure you're going to love seeing what others on the team created with it!

For my project...

I created my project for Georgiana on the Die Cuttin Divas team.

I visited her site and noticed she is a teacher; so I decided to make her a key chain (for all those teacher keys!) using cuts from the CTMH Arts Philosophy Cartridge.  These cuts all coordinated with Dimensional Elements of chipboard.  

The scalloped oval is covered with paper from CTMH Kaleidoscope papers.  I then stamped Laugh (every teacher needs to laugh from time to time!) from the CTMH Love Life stamp set.  I embellished with sparkles.  The flip side is decorated with Kaleidoscope Complements.

The tag shaped piece is also covered in paper from Kaleidoscope and has a piece of Acetate Alternative to make a small picture frame for a photo or a small reminder note.  The little heart is from CTMH Kaleidoscope Assortment.  

I added some Base and Bling Jewelry pieces and some Pixie and Poppy Twine for decor!

Mardi Gras at Cut It Up!

Mardi Gras is such a fun event for cards and decor!  Who doesn't love the bright party colors, beads, and fun?  We all know masks are a big part of Mardi Gras, also.  That's why when I got to choose the theme over at Cut It Up, I thought it would be fun to do a Mardi Gras theme using a masking technique!  So, that's the theme this time; you must use a die cut and a masking technique!  You will want to head over there and see all the great ideas by the Design Team and check out the prizes offered by our sponsor, as Cute as a Button!

Your Heart's Desire!

I can't believe it is already time to start thinking Valentine's Day!  What words come to your mind when you think about the holiday?  Love, hearts, passion, desire?  Desire is the theme over at Path of Positivity this month!

I saw this darling image from Scribbles Designs and couldn't help but think of the expression, whatever your heart desires!  Now, what I didn't know about this expression is, it takes its roots from Psalm 37:4.  "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."  

From here I started thinking about how desire is one of the first stories from the bible.....Adam and Eve and the desire for knowledge of good and evil.

Now moving on in history, we are reminded of Saint Valentine for whom our February 14 holiday is named.  He had a desire to see couples married in the church.  

So, there you are ~ a little history on desire and Valentine's Day!  You just never know what we'll be sharing here at ScrappyHorses!  ; )

Picture This!

It's time for  another challenge over at TTCRD where the theme is always Anything Goes!  This week's sponsor is Dr. Digi's House of Stamps and this fun image is Birthday Cheese!  I really like this image since I love photography and it works for anyone's birthday.  I will be holding on to this card for a birthday later in the year!

I started with a white card base and layered with a piece of Peacock Fundamental paper.  Next, I colored my image with colored pencils and gel pens.  I added a background with Canary ink and created a Bokeh sort of effect with white pigment ink using a circle stencil and the backside of a flower stamp which created a smaller circle.  I thought the Bokeh effect might give the illusion of the flash of the camera!  

I cut my Polaroid type frame with a Cricut after welding on the FUN in Design Space.  Using a razor blade, (might be safer to use a craft knife......I should probably invest in one of those!) I cut around the corners of the 'picture' in my image.  That way the corners could come out over the frame giving it some dimension!
