Slaying Dragons

It's a new challenge over at Digi Choosday and we are sharing Fantasy projects this week and my project combines a bit of fantasy with story/art/parable in my journal.  Our Challenges are always Anything Goes for all of your wonderful entries!

I turned to the Little Dudes Knight & Dragon, also available in the Little Dudes Big Kahuna Bundle, for my focal image.

My Project Details

Digi and part of sentiment:  Polkadoodles Little Dudes Knight & Dragon
Legend Title:  Polkadoodles Little Dudes Knight & Dragon
Flourishes:  Polkadoodles Winnie in Winterland
Papers:  Polkadoodles Little Dudes Big Kahuna Bundle
Homemade Arrow Stencil
Deco Foil and Transfer Gel
Glass Beads
Vinyl for top flourish and words "When" and "cannot"
Inks, sponges, glue, tape runners,

If you need some direction in making a stencil, check out this VIDEO.

I started by printing my verbiage and digi onto their respective papers.  I also cut a mask for the digi.  I laid the mask over the knight and dragon and then placed my stencil over that.

I sponged the Deco Foil Transfer Gel through the stencil and let that dry for about an hour or so until it turns clear. Finally, I placed the foil over the gel and sandwiched it with cardstock in parchment paper to run it through a laminator.  Now there are shiny bits of arrow and shattered fragments adding to the magical fantasy feel!

Copic coloring the digi followed with adhering it all into my book.
A few little gems & ink and it's done!

If you are interested, here's my journal story.

You might be wondering how this fits into my journaling.  Well, it's a long and turning story, but I'll be brief!  Back in May, I was diagnosed with a very, very rare auto-immune disorder called Churg Strauss/ Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis; 2.4 out of a million are diagnosed a year!  Believe me, this was like chasing down a dragon....that's the dragon connection to this adorable digi.

Now, you might be thinking, "Ok, but how does that tie into the story from the Apocrypha?"  Well, Churg Strauss has no cure; in other words, it cannot be slayed!  However, it can be tamed to the point of living with it in most cases....just like the dragons in the story/parable.  Of course, in the Apocrypha story the decision was made not to slay, but to tame (at least that is the way I understand it- I'm no scholar or authority on this topic!)  In my case, I'd rather slay my dragon (CS/EGPA), but that's not do-able at this point! Therefor, I will be content with taming the little magenta beast by thinking big!  ;)

Why a magenta dragon?  That is the color of eosinophils under the microscope!  That is how I tie it all together in my unusual, off-beat way of thinking...

  10. What a wonderful and heartfelt back story to tame that pink dragon. It is sad that there is no cure for your disease, but with so few people who have it, pharmaceutical companies are often not willing to invest in a cure. At least there is a way to keep it under control. This is a lovely journal entry and a great fantasy, too. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey.
