Mixing It Up with MHK

The Twisted Thursday Pot of Gold is continuing and optional twist for our Anything Goes challenge is Mixed Mediums!  I was more than delighted when I saw this challenge since I have been watching lots of videos from Mike Deakin lately.  He does a lot of mixed media and vintage look.

Now, if you're not well versed in this term or think it has to be super messy or extravagant to create mixed media, allow me to share some info about this term from ArtHistory.net:

In visual arts, the term Mixed Media refers to a work of art that embodies more than one medium. For example, a canvas that features acrylic paint, ink, and collage could be termed Mixed Media. In this way, the term is an umbrella for visual art works that reflect more than one type of artistic medium. Mixed media artworks are currently popular in the art world. The term has been used since the Post-Modern art period of the twentieth century; yet the practice of combining different types of media to create an artwork dates back to antiquity.

Artists employ a wide variety of materials to create Mixed Media Art. Found objects like seashells, stones, and natural fibers may be employed. Other materials could include beads, textiles, paper, clay, ink, pigment, paint, gold leaf, charcoal, metal, and much more. Many artists enjoy working with Mixed Media as it allows for great flexibility. Mixed Media also adapts well to a wide array of styles.
I encourage you to visit ArtHistory.net and read more as well as visit other sites!  There is a lot of interesting info about the style as well as examples by some very famous artists to be seen!

About my tag:

I'm very lucky to have some wonderful old pictures I can copy and play with for this type of art.  I chose a picture of my grandmother from the early 1930's.  She worked in the office of a mortuary out in Texas where my grandfather was a funeral director.  Later, they came home to the midwest and owned their own business where my father also worked as a funeral director.

Grandma always had a letter opener on her desk as well as other necessities.  These images from MHK The Write Stuff were perfect to create the collage effect I was after for the mixed media tag!  The flower stamps behind the photo are from MHK Beauty.

Different mediums include:
Dye Inks ~ CTMH, Memento
Distress Oxide ~ Ranger
Pigment Inks~
Paint ~ Ranger
Color spray ~ Prima
Flower ~ Prima
Heat Embossing ~ Powder from Ranger
Chip board die ~ Bo Bunny
Leather
Metal Piece for top is a "treasure" I've held onto just waiting for the right project!

I'm very pleased to work with images from one of our sponsors, MHK Designs!
